01 The short version
Some links on this website, in the free Italy guide, in the packing list, and in the La Vita Nuova newsletter are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, I may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you, ever.
I only link to things I genuinely recommend to friends planning a first solo trip to Italy. I have used, researched, or personally vetted every product and service I link to. I do not accept payment to feature or promote anything I wouldn't otherwise mention.
02 What affiliate links are and how they work
An affiliate link is a specially tracked URL that tells a company I sent you to them. When you click the link and complete a purchase, the company pays me a percentage of the sale as a referral fee. The price you pay is identical to what you would pay by going directly to the company's website. You pay nothing extra. Ever.
Affiliate commissions are one of the ways La Vita Nuova covers the cost of producing free content — the guide, the newsletter, the packing list, the Instagram posts. They allow me to keep the core resources free rather than charging for them directly.
Not every link on this site is an affiliate link. Many are simply recommendations with no financial relationship attached. I don't distinguish these visually because I believe the standard should be the same regardless: I only link to things I'd genuinely recommend, affiliated or not.
03 FTC compliance
La Vita Nuova is based in the United States. Under the Federal Trade Commission's guidelines, I am required to disclose any material connection between myself and the products or services I recommend — including affiliate relationships.
I comply with these requirements in the following ways:
- Affiliate links in Instagram captions are disclosed in the caption itself, typically with the phrase "affiliate link in bio" or "affiliate link — honest disclosure."
- The free Italy guide carries a visible affiliate notice at the start.
- Affiliate links in the La Vita Nuova newsletter are disclosed in the standard newsletter footer.
- The packing list carries a visible affiliate notice at the start and end.
- This policy page is linked from every document that contains affiliate links.
If you ever see a link on this site or in La Vita Nuova content that appears to be an affiliate link without a disclosure, please email me at hello@lavitanuova.co and I will correct it immediately.
04 What I will and won't do
These are the commitments I make to everyone who reads La Vita Nuova content:
- I will always disclose when a link is affiliated, in the content where the link appears — not just on this policy page.
- I will only link to things I'd genuinely recommend to a friend planning a first solo trip to Italy. The commission never influences the recommendation. If a product doesn't meet that standard, I won't link to it regardless of what it pays.
- I will not accept sponsored posts that require me to say positive things about a product I haven't personally vetted. Paid partnerships, if they ever happen, will be labelled clearly as #ad or #sponsored — never disguised as organic recommendations.
- I will not inflate prices or create false scarcity to drive affiliate purchases. Every recommendation is made because I believe it genuinely serves you, not because the deadline is today.
- I will update this page when partners change, programs end, or my experience with a product changes my view of it.
05 Your choices
You are never obligated to use my affiliate links. If you prefer to go directly to a company's website, please do. The recommendations are genuine whether or not you use the link that earns me a commission.
If you find a product I've recommended genuinely useful and want to support La Vita Nuova at no extra cost to yourself, using the affiliate link when you purchase is the simplest way to do that. It keeps the newsletter free, the guide free, and the packing list free for everyone who needs it.
